Customer Review: I think this is a good textbook for a class. The lessons cover a little cultural information, new information, and some review exercises. The white classwork pages are separated from the blue homework pages which are separate from the yellow-bordered vocab pages. The homework pages have the answers in the back so you don't have to wait for the teacher to review your work. The vocab is comprehensive so break out your notecards!
The examples use people from all over the Spanish speaking world in different circumstances (eg. One of the families is a Peruvian-Japanese family whose parents are divorced). Plus, the book is not condescending nor is it too basic.
I have used this book in Espanol clase 1,2, and soon, 3. The workbook is pretty good too.

Customer Review: "Impressive..." or "Extraordinary..." may be a more appropriate title for this book. Schultz traces the both the history of a non-functional inner-city public school classroom all the way through the children's education achievements, and his personal growth along the way. Developing a democratic classroom with both the students and teacher learning from each other is truly amazing!
The book allows the reader to share, and understand, the successes and disappointments of both Schultz and his students. And throughout, the reader remains totally engaged.
The interaction between the students and politicians, the news media, and national organizations has demonstrated that we all have much to learn. Truly inspirational and extremely motivational. A must read.

Customer Review: There are some excellent selections from the poetry, short fiction, and drama genres in here. Oedipus Rex, Hamlet, Battle Royal, etc. You also have some dogs. Proof, the Red Wheelbarow (and other William Carlos Williams poems). Bottom line, whoever edited this anthology had no idea the amount of books a college student carries around and this one is very large. There's a lot of filler here, so suggestion to Bedford: take out some of the non-essentials to slim down this book. One semester doesn't cover 1,200 pages.

I've done that also to NO AVAIL!!!!!! My class starts in 2 weeks and I still have no book!!!! Now I need to cancel that order, try to get my money BACK and reorder the book I NEED!!!! Customer Review: Toqueville's work unquestionably will last for as long as human nature remains the same. Certainly, it is diverting to read accounts about the topography and anachronistically idiosyncratic habits of the inhabitants of America over a century ago; the fundamental value of his work, however, lies in his acute understanding of human nature that does not change throughout time. I must, however, qualify this statement, since there is only one Book, the author of which I am in utter agreement. One part of his book I disagree with concerns the ways of ending slavery. It was not nearly as dangerously problematic as he thinks, since most Western nations that had had slavery peacefully eradicated it, and America could have done so by several means. (One way, although a distinct compromise, could have been for philanthropists, abolitionists, and/ or government to requite the slave owners their money and thereby instantly free those enslaved.) Having said that, I wholeheartedly agree with much of the work, and think that more than most writers on the American polity, he truly perceives how certain tendencies of human nature are revealed in this particular society founded upon practical wisdom, personal responsibility, self-reliance, and faith. Many of his disquisitions on these tendencies that could be accentuated in American democracy are now more thought-provoking than ever. One prominent example is his understanding of an issue fundamental to Americans. He famously shows how they are pragmatically intent upon getting things done by combining in 'societies.' A problem could occur if ever the citizens in general become selfish and much less self-reliant: 'individualism' could arise. He articulates a bleak portrait of a society in which none care to take personal responsibility, but are willing to sacrifice freedom for temporary security. This is disquieting for modern society, and it would be well were more people to read his work and learn from it.

Customer Review: I bought this book because I needed to learn about UbD's for my new district this year. I thought that the book was well laid out and gave you a great framework for the UbD's but there was so much flab in between. There were a lot of pages that I felt like I could skip through. I do not know if that is because I graduated with an Education degree and therefore I knew most of the things they said in this book or if it because it repeats itself a lot. Overall I think this book is great for college students just starting in the profession.
