MADAME SARKOZY
HarperCollins came forward this week with happy news for the fans of the Sex and the City franchise two new novels from author Candace Bushnell focusing on main character Carrie Bradshaws formative years We can only suppose that film adaptations are to follow once the two young-adult novels are published in a couple of years. While this may be good news for Disney star Miley Cyrus, fellow mouseketeer Selena Gomez is steering clear of any Sex-related controversy Attending Thursday nights Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the 16-year-old MADAME SARKOZY singer and actress told E! News that a high-school version of the sexalicious television series is not her cup of tea Thats not really the audience Im going for, Gomez said. I mean, my mom loves the show and its a very popular show, but thats not the direction Im looking to take at this time Gomez currently stars on Disney Channels live action series Wizards of Waverly Place, as Alex Russo. She is also working on her debut album Miley Cyrus, also under contract with Disney, starring in the super-successful Hanna Montana series, one year younger than Gomez and considerably more famous, has no fear of flirting with controversy She told TV Guide in July that she for one was a fan of the series of course she watched the cleaned up TBS version. Not only did she enjoy following Carrie Bradshaw and the girls throughout their adventures, but she would just love to do a younger, cleaner version of the show HarperCollins Publishers announced on Wednesday that Candace Bushnell has signed to write The Carrie Diaries, two novels aiming at a younger fan base, which take readers back to Carrie Bradshaws formative years in high school, giving an inside look at Carries friendships, romances and how she realized her dream of becoming a writer The first book of The Carrie Diaries will be released in 2010 What never officially existed is now apparently over. Attention tweens of the world?Joe Jonas is now back on the market According to Us Weekly, the Jonas Brothers performer and his country singer girlfriend are now over. Sources claim the 19-year-old broke up with Taylor Swift last Friday over the phone Back in August, the couple were seen double-dating with Nick Jonas and his girlfriend, Selena Gomez. The two (as pictured above) even sat next to each other - in public - at the 2008 Video Music Awards MADAME SARKOZY While Im sure Swift could easily find another man soon, Joe supposedly broke the 18-year-olds heart. Sounds like good material for a new album Teen actress Selena Gomez is to head a campaign for children's charity UNICEF The Wizards Of Waverly Place star has been named as the spokesperson for its 2008 Trick-or-Treat initiative Gomez, 16, will work to encourage children to help those in need around the world She said: "I want to help encourage other kids to make a difference in the world and show them that Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF is such a great, fun way to get involved Charity president Carly Stern said its members are thrilled to have Gomez on board Young people can relate to Selena and she is a great role model who we believe will greatly enhance the visibility of the programme," she said Gomez was recently rumoured to be dating Nick Jonas of pop trio the Jonas Brothers San Francisco, CA, October 02, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Palomita Clothing, the extraordinary new brand of womens, juniors and girls apparel with a focus on the Latino market, and MisQuinceMag.com will unveil an inspiring t-shirt designed by teen actress Selena Gomez today, October 1st 2008 in little girls and junior sizes Selena Gomez offered her talented hand earlier this spring to the Palomita brand by designing a special tee in conjunction with MisQuinceMag.com for the Palomita Education Fund. Her t-shirt displays beautiful butterflies with some of Selenas inspiring mottos, including believe in yourself, love always, and dream out loud. Proceeds from the t-shirts sold on Palomita website will benefit the Palomita Education Fund, a fund set to award scholarships to assist Latino students in completing their undergraduate college education. It was a rewarding experience to design a t-shirt for the Palomita Education foundation which is dedicated to improving the lives of Latinos through education, said Gomez. It is great to be part of such a wonderful charity Palomitas motto Por fin una marca para ti (Finally a brand for you) tells the story. Palomita was created by Molly Robbins, a Mexico City native as well an apparel industry veteran. She has secured exclusive rights to use trademarks and vintage art from an array of Latino companies and is artistically incorporating them into the Palomita? brand. REAL Americans warning McCain / Palin about Obama Socialism
by rss@youtube.com (JohnRaytheon)
9 Oct 2008 at 7:24pm
Obama, has called Ayers, now a college education professor, "a guy in my neighborhood" and said he and Ayers are not close. He told ABC News on Wednesday that McCain is trying to score "cheap political points" by bringing up Ayers.
Ayers in the mid-1990s hosted a meeting at his house to introduce Obama to neighbors during Obama's first run for a seat in the Illinois Senate. They also served on a nonprofit anti-poverty board together.
"We don't care about an old washed-up terrorist and his wife..." McCain said. "That's not the point here. The point is Sen. Obama said he was just a guy in the neighborhood. We know that's not true. We need to know the full extent of the relationship because of whether Sen. Obama is telling the truth to the American people or not."
A Web video ad released by the McCain campaign shows pictures of Obama and Ayers and said Obama has not told the truth about the extent of his ties with Ayers.
"Americans say, 'Where's the truth, Barack?' Barack Obama. Too risky for America."

Senator John Cornyn Doesn't Support Our Vets
by rss@youtube.com (bravenewfilms)
9 Oct 2008 at 7:05am
http://txveterans.org
Health care. Mental health benefits. Adequate body armor and armored vehicles. A college education. These are just some of the necessities all of our service members deserve. But clearly, Senator John Cornyn doesn't think so.
Cornyn's rhetoric belies his appalling record in the Senate. The fact that Cornyn has stood with President Bush 95 percent of the time and has opposed our service members on more than 20 key issues proves he doesn't support our troops or veterans. It's a fact every Texan needs to know, now.
Every Texan must see this video. Send this e-mail to ten friends and get them to pass it along to ten more. Post this video on your blogs and spread it on sites like Digg -- some of the most effective ways to reach those outside the choir.

Let's make sure everyone knows John Cornyn is not giving our veterans and troops the respect they deserve.

Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations
by Alex Harris, Brett Harris
Amazon Price: $11.55
Customer Review: There is much in this book to like. The writing style is very fluid and catchy. It is a very easy read but also one that has the ability to stir up your heart. The first part of the book, at least in my opinion, shines the brightest. The second and third section are necessary to help us see what The Rebelution looks like but I was sold on the first part. The Myth of Adolescence and A Better Way are two really great chapters. These teens know their culture and are impacting it in a profound way.
As a youth pastor I made an effort to get this book in the hands of every one of our teenagers. We went through this book in our Sunday School meetings and most of the students liked it, and some were excited about joining The Rebelution. This book, or at least all of the principles behind it, needs to catch on in our churches and within our youth culture.
What I Disliked:
This book will not solve all of the problems within teen culture nor is it meant to. However, there does seem to be something that is missing with this book. It pains me to say it because I expected the exact opposite, but the thing that seemed to missing was a Christ-centered, gospel-centered, appeal to rebel against low expectations. By no means is the gospel left out. The Harris brothers are always quick to point to God and many of their stories include the living out of the gospel. But there is a sense in which the gospel seems to take a back seat to social change. Would they consider someone a Rebelutionary that started a grass roots political campaign but never came to know and share in the glory of Christ? It is clear that their intent is to "do hard things for the glory of God" but does that really happen when unbelievers are merely creating social change?
Should You Buy It?
If you are an old codger that disdains and is bothered by the plight of youth culture then you need to read this book to see why teens are the way they are and what you can do about it. If you are a blissfully ignorant teenager then you need to read this book. If you work with teenagers and are beating your head against the wall this might be a good book for you. Simply put, if you have ever seen a teenager then this might be a good read for you. In my opinion this book is a seed of something really great. Be a part of it, buy the book.
Cracking the SAT, 2009 Edition (College Test Prep)
by Princeton Review
Amazon Price: $13.57

CliffsAP Biology (Cliffs Ap Biology)
by Phillip E., Ph.D. Pack
Amazon Price: $11.55
Customer Review: During my college biology class in High School, I would always do well in the labs but would do poorly in quizzes and tests. I received the book in the mail a day before my test. I read the chapter we were studying on the way to school and I easily passed the test.
The PowerScore LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible: A Comprehensive System for Attac...
by David M. Killoran
Amazon Price: $64.99
Customer Review: This book is very good and is very detailed on every type of question. Plus you can actually remember what you are suppose to do on each type. The only down side is that it's very long. But if you want to do your best on the LSAT, you should read this book. Give yourself a month on this book alone.
Notice that the conditional reasoning, formal logic, and parallel reasoning sections are probably the most helpful sections. However, these questions are by far the hardest on the logical reasoning section. I recommend saving them for last to make sure you get done in time, since they are the most time consuming. (Before I read these sections I incorrectly thought conditional and logical reasoning was far to easy to be worth studying, since I had an engineering background.)
In short, I recommend the following study method for the LSAT:
Introduction to the test: Look at the free stuff from LSAC
Logic Games: Read the book "Ace the LSAT Logic Games", by Get Prepped.
Logical Reasoning: read the book "LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible", by Power Score.
Reading Comprehension: don't read any books that tell you to highlight and underline stuff, you won't have time to finish the exam. Instead, read a bunch of novels to improve your reading skills if you were never much of a reader before. So ladies, read some romance novels, and guys well you know what to read.
Kaplan/Princeton Review: I don't recommend wasting any time with either of these books. They are much too basic. If you want to study for a couple weeks and just get familiar with the test, then these are fine. However, you won't do your best if you rely simply on these general books.
Lastly, make sure to put down all study books the entire week before the test and simply do practice exams.

The two exams I used Princeton Review to study for, I got 5s! In the other 4 subjects I got 4s. This book is the exact tool you need to push yourself from a 4 to a 5! It's great!

Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think Abo...
by Loren Pope
Amazon Price: $10.20
Customer Review: The author makes a persuasive case for small, liberal arts colleges, many of whom are not well-known. He describes each school in detail, and does a very good job of pointing out each school's advantages. Initially I was quite impressed with the information.
What is lacking is very much information about problem areas or weaknesses of each college. The book is so laudatory, it lacks even-handedness. I am recommending the book highly, but think it needs to be complemented with a more balanced book. As an example, Pope (rightly, I think) raves about St. John's College in New Mexico, which uses the "Great Books" as primary sources. But, this praise needs to be balanced. Here are comments about St John's from The Princeton Review's "The Best 368 Colleges": "full of relentless intellectual duress..." " a school for super-geeks"...Everyone is a "voracious reader" and "kind of neurotic".
I'm not saying these comments are all valid, but they should be included for the reader's consideration.
Other than this criticism, I think the book is a great asset, and one we'll make good use of in researching colleges.
Cracking the AP Calculus AB & BC Exams, 2008 Edition (College Test Prep)
by David S. Kahn
Amazon Price: $12.92
Customer Review: I took the Calc BC Exam this May. I do not know what else I can say besides that this book will get you a 5 on calc BC. Of course, I got a 5 on it, with the subgrade also being 5. I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!!
Examkrackers Mcat Complete Study Package (Examkrackers)
by Jonathan Orsay
Amazon Price: $110.22
Customer Review: My score: 34M
BS: EXCELLENT review for science majors (non-science majors may need more background knowledge). The book is very clear on what should and should not be studied. My practice scores jumped from 10-13/14 after studying this material. Unfortunately, I choked in this section slightly on the real MCATs and that kept me from a score of 36 or 37.
VR: Decent strategies that made sense and worked for me. On average the practice and the tips upped me from 10 to 11 in this section.
PS: GOOD review for physical sciences. The equations they suggest you know are right on point. After working through this review section and memorizing the recommended equations, my score improved from 10 to 12.
Writing: This was not covered extensively and it need not be. My score is rather low, but as long as it's not J or K (two lowest), you should be fine. I scored rather low here more because I took the section lightly than because of the prep materials.
Overall... a solid review package at a reasonable price for science majors. More help with understanding may be necessary for people who have not taken college Physics, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, etc.
---
My recipe for the MCATs: Examkrackers Comprehensive study package, electronic flash cards (that I purchased), ALL the practice AAMC exams available, a few other simulated exams from other test prep companies (hand-me-down books), and STUDY, PRACTICE, and PERSISTENCE.
P.S. I was a bit worried about Examkrackers posting their own reviews of their product (since they have SO many more reviews than other test-prep books), but I assure you I am a real pre-med. Just check my profile to see my other purchases!
