Customer Review: I am all for books that are cool enough for young boys to read on their own - heck - we have every Capt. Underpants book in creation... but I was a little turned off by the text in this book. In the first few chapters alone, there were lots of "I hate her" and "She is stupid", "She is dumb", etc, etc. I'm not a total prude about these words - but the reading level of this book strikes me as "early 2nd grade"- meaning that this book is most likely to be read by 1st and 2nd graders. The negativity seemed a bit excessive to me. Also - it's one thing to think your school is weird, but the main character AJ goes into some detail about why he HATES school, talks about how mean the fifth graders are, and accuses another child of being a "brown-noser". (Try explaining brown-nosing to your 7 year old.) I just felt that it was generally a bit negative for the 1st and 2nd graders - most of whom still really like school, or you at least WANT them to like school at that age. Let's not tarnish their idealism already! Even Capt. Underpants is pretty upbeat and optimistic throughout its potty humor. I would not necessarily have minded all the "hate", "stupid", and "dumb" comments had my son been a few years older, at least in 3rd or 4th grade - but really, the reading level is not that high, and by age 9 or 10,there are much better books for them to be reading. Otherwise, I agree with the other reviewers that the book is a quick read, and humorous .. but not necessarily the kind of jaded humor that I felt like a 1st grader needed to read (nor did he really enjoy that type of humor).

Customer Review: Drive to win is definitely a great read for the racing or performance driving enthusiast. Written in mostly simple terms it's easy to follow and understand. Sometimes Carroll goes off into the weeds beating on driver's mistakes and bad habits. Definitely a Race team manager speaking! Which brings me to my last comment; This really comes across at times as written from a team manager's perspective, but Carroll can draw from all parts of his vast racing experience. It's got loads of great tips and insight throughout, which is sure to satisfy any racing enthusiast or starting practitioner.

Customer Review: My son, going into third grade, thought it was easy to read (not chapters), but he really liked it a lot. Maybe better for a first grader. Good illustrations, and humor. My son thought the story was a good lesson about not listening to the opinions of others, but rather making up your own mind.

Customer Review: From driving position, to handling physics, to a little Porsche racing history, a instructive and enjoyable read. I will be keeping it as a reference of both driver seating / feet placement and the physics of car control. While Porsche 911 centric, other engine / drive systems are also discussed in the handling sections.
There are also a few chapters on winter driving conditions and how that changes the handling (or lack there of).
Worth having in your reference library and reading / rereading prior to attending an advance driving courses or club driving event.

The advice and recommendations from this book were a great inspiration for the suggestions my audio CD gives to drivers as they start their drive to have a safe and focused drive. I would highly recommend this book with my audio CD to help drivers be prepared for what potentials the road may present to them.

Customer Review: I have been using the recommendations and following the prescribed practice tasks while teaching my son to drive. He is responding very positively, and seems to really appreciate the fact that I care enough to be reading the book and following the course with him. The book has me thinking of things to talk about with him that I would not have thought about on my own. So many things about driving we just take for granted after all these years, but the book reminds us that these little things must be learned and gives us recommendations as to how to introduce them. My mother gave me the keys to the car and I drove home from getting my permit. How scarey is that? That's just not an option today, and this book outlines a complete course of practice that will definately help me to help my son be a better driver. I am very pleased with it.

The book examines the models that children develop in their structuring of the world, then addresses how educators can support those pieces that are correct and work to re-structure those that are incorrect.
