How to Prepare for the Dental Admissions Test (Barron's How to Prepare for th... by Richard A. Lehman Amazon Price: $11.55
Customer Review: The best part of this book is definitely the PAT. It offers a lot of strategies and has more practice problems than other books I looked at. I also like the section they have in the beginning of the book for pre-dents, which offers advice on things like recommendation letters and interviews.
The concerns that I have with this book are that I've seen the many complaints about mistakes in the answer key, and I can't tell whether I really got a question wrong or if it's a typo. Also, the math and science sections aren't sufficient. I wish that Barron's would update this, too, because it was published about 10 years ago, and I'd like to have most up to date study material possible.
The Pre-Dental Guide: a guide for successfully getting into dental school by Joseph S. Kim Amazon Price: $12.55
Customer Review: I was hoping for something with a little more insight into dentistry, with more practical advice on how to get into a dental school, with more ideas of how to prepare now as a pre-dental student. It was useful in some aspects of different fields of dentistry and gave me a better idea of the DAT, which I dont know much about because it's still a good year off. This book is useful if have no idea about going into dentistry or on the fence and want to know more.
Dental Admission Test (DAT) Computerized Sample Tests and Guide, TopScore Pro... by ScholarWare.com Amazon Price: $89.99
Customer Review: I just took the DAT this morning and this is not the product to get to prepare for actual test questions. The orgo and genchem sections are pretty accurate to the test, but everything else is not. The bio section is much harder and specific on the real test. The reading section on the actual test has tone and inference questions, whereas these practice tests only ask specific passage questions. The actual DAT has a lot of rate, chance, and algebra questions, whereas these practice tests do not. The actual pat section is harder than the software pat section. The actual exam is sort of formatted badly. It takes up the whole computer screen and the words are big, so it takes more time to read. This software has a small window for a screen, which is convenient but not true to the test. This software is good for timing, but beware of content!
Open Wide: Tooth School Inside by Laurie Keller Amazon Price: $7.95
Customer Review: Little bit silly but loads of fun. Actually learn a few things about teeth in a fun way. 3 out of my 4 kids recommend it!

CliffsTestPrep DAT by American BookWorks Corporation Amazon Price: $21.77
Customer Review: The main issue I have with this book is that the problems in this book seem much too easy as compared to those found in other review books and in the actual DAT test. Further, if you want some good practice with Organic Chemistry, look elsewhere; this book only has a "Chemistry" section with some questions devoted to Organic Chemistry.
The only redeeming feature is the PAT section, since it provides you with more practice on various shapes for TFE and patterns for Folding.
Overall, I feel this book can only at best serve as a supplementary to more comprehensive review books. Perhaps this book can be used to pinpoint basic ideas in Biology, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry that you are weak in, but do not expect the book to be challenging.
The Dentist from the Black Lagoon by Mike Thaler Amazon Price: $3.99
Customer Review: My child LOVES all of the Black Lagoon books. Perfect for school age children.
Kaplan DAT with CD-ROM: Third Edition (Kaplan Dat (Dental Admission Test)) by Kaplan Amazon Price: Customer Review: If you buy this used, it is a good buy. Be aware that the PAT practice is far easier than the actual DAT. Their science practice tests is pretty accurate in terms of difficulty, but on my DAT at least, the material was a bit different. I didn't use much to review material but what I did read was fairly well-presented but very dense. The CD practice was not much like the real DAT, but still helpful to get used to doing it on the computer.
Bottom Line: only buy used and use other books too.
How to Get into the Right Dental School by Carla Rogers Amazon Price: $11.21
Customer Review: I suggest that this book is valuable mainly for its interview tips. That portion of the book is extremely helpful!
