Kevin Murphy offers a proposal
by rss@youtube.com (gottuition)
27 Aug 2008 at 9:02pm
Kevin Murphy, who blogs at Ghost in the Machine, used his undergraduate degree to become a speechwriter in the 1990s, but returned to graduate school after 2000. While the $15,000 remainder of his undergraduate debt is still in forebearance as he finishes his graduate classes, it continues to accrue interest, he said. He was ready with a proposal when Got Tuition asked how he might urge lawmakers to make a college education more accessible and more affordable to more Americans.

Why I need This Scholarship!
by rss@youtube.com (Alchemarty)
27 Aug 2008 at 11:50am
This is my attempt at letting y'all know that I deserve (I like the word "need" better) a scholarship. If you vote for me I will be eternally grateful, as I have many bills associated with grad school, childcare, and my undergrad years.
All you need to do is log in to http://whyideserveascholarship.com/video/show/10160 and vote for me, Martin Rawlings-Fein. The background is my apartment, the artwork is my work, and the content is why I think I need the scholarship. I am in grad school for Jewish Studies, a distance program, in Boston, and live in San Francisco. The college I attend is a feeder program for rabbinical school candidates.
If I ever needed your help, it is now! I need to you log in and vote for me, call your friends and have them vote for me, and take a chance to get my tuition paid. Every second counts as the contest ends on September 8th 2008.

Financial Management: Theory & Practice (with Thomson ONE - Business School E...
by Eugene F. Brigham, Michael C. Ehrhardt
Amazon Price: $133.02
Customer Review: I was tortured by ridiculously hard exams and a calculator that made we want to tear my hair out. But it wasn't the book's fault. I am going to school while I work so I don't have a lot of time to devote to a class. The book was well paced and not to wordy. It stressed reading comprehension and had many levels of financial problems for every type of reader. I purchased the study guide to understand the harder questions. It was a blessing on my open book tests. The text book comes with the answers (not solutions) in the appendix, but did have the solutions to the self-test questions. It also comes with a handy cheat sheet of equations for every chapter in the appendix as well.
The PowerScore LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible: A Comprehensive System for Attac...
by David M. Killoran
Amazon Price: $64.99
Customer Review: This item along with the Powerscore Logic Games Bible are must haves for LSAT study! I wish I would've spent more time on this book though. I took the June 2008 LSAT and receieved a 153. My logic games section was my best with 21/23 correct. I know that if I study this book more that I could definitely improve my score, which I plan on doing this upcoming October 4 LSAT! I've already pre-ordered the Powerscore Reading Comprehension Bible which will ship on Sept. 4 from Powerscore's website because that's by far my weakest section. If it's anything like the other books then it should be a big help!
Fundamentals of Nursing
by Patricia A. Potter, Anne Griffin Perry

Customer Review: This a great reference book that I used througout nursing school. This was a great book for writing care plans or the random papers that we had to write. This is another one of the few books that I kept from college.
Getting What You Came For: The Smart Student's Guide to Earning an M.A. or a ...
by Robert Peters
Amazon Price: $10.88
Customer Review: In the humanities, completing a PhD can take as long as 10 years. Reducing that time as much as possible is crucial for a graduate student. This book addresses many of the practical issues related to completing your graduate degree, from applying to grad schools to choosing a dissertation topic to find a job afterward. While different disciplines vary greatly in their requirements and expectations, this guide will be very useful to anyone considering graduate school or currently enrolled.
The Massacre at El Mozote
by Mark Danner
Amazon Price: $10.17
Customer Review: I picked up this book primarily from the intriguing cover. The words inside the cover were shocking. This short little book (161 pages of text and 141 pages of notes) is a straightforward account of one of the greatest shames of the century. The extensive research involved gives it the weight of authority. The style of writing was plain reporting and somewhat dry and uninteresting in places. However, I doubt that this book was written to entertain. This work is a must for students of Central American politics and foreign relations. I came away with the growing distrust and dismay of government, including the USA. Patriotism in every land seems to be a diversionary tactic used to orient the populace away from the amoral and often immoral workings of government run by people motivated by greed and fear. I have an equally increasing admiration for the press and good reporting. Free speech and a free press is the conscience, gadfly, and salvation of trusting and sometimes misguided persons.
Chaos: Making a New Science
by James Gleick
Amazon Price: $13.60
Customer Review: Chaos by James Gleick is a must read if you like keeping up with science or just like reading things that broaden the perspectives of your thinking. Gleick does a masterful job of simplifying the science of Chaos to a level any bright kid can understand while not diminishing any of its importance or ignoring any of the details. If you're curious about what a Klein bottle actually is or a Lorenzo's butterflies, this is the book for you. The illustrations of the Mandlbrot sets are truly amazing and worth the cost of the book just to look at. With his clear, concise style Gleick leads the reader through the history of Chaos science while building a strong foundation for the understanding of it. You don't need to know how to use a slide rule to read this book and it would be a memorable gift for any adult or child interested in science.
Microbiology & Immunology: Board Review Series
by Arthur G Johnson, Arthur G. Johnson

The Practice of the Presence of God
by Brother Lawrence
Amazon Price: $5.99
Customer Review: I have read other versions of Brother Lawrence in the past. This one is done very well. It contains the essential perspective of this holy man.The commentary is just enough to understand the teaching of Bro. Lawrence, yet not overdone such that we lose that essential teaching. I encourage you to read and ponder this "little book" with such a big influence on our lives.
Cracking the GRE Psychology Subject Test, 7th Edition
by Princeton Review
Amazon Price: $12.24
Customer Review: I was studying my tusik off for the GRE, but every book I had read was stupid and pretty gay. The first time I took the GRE I got a C-, but then I read this book - and smoked a ton of weed - and then I took it again and I got a B-, which is an improvement of 39%. So, you should like, read it. ALSO, it's pretty funny.
