Customer Review: I've read many young adult novels and a few vampire novels before reading Twilight. The hype around this book was crazy, and with a movie coming out, I was excited to read this book. Unfortunately, I was not impressed.
The book was entertaining, but nothing more than that. Maybe if I was in high school, I would have enjoyed it more. What I didn't like: the message, the characters, and the relationship.
Like another review wrote, the message is really bad for girls. A pretty girl meets a pretty boy, and life is meaningless without him. I've read so many young adult books for girls that is empowering towards women. It's another Cinderella story of a beautiful girl devoted to a beautiful boy. Shallow.
Bella Swann comes off as any pretty, a little socially awkward, clumsy high school girl. This is realistic. However, if you're going to make a perfect vampire fall in love with a human for the first time, shouldn't she be a little more interesting? A little more wise? A little more dark? I don't know, but she is lacking. And Edward is perfect and cocky. BO-RING!
And their relationship. She smells good. He looks good. They have a few conversations. It really seems like she fell in love with his good looks. Why do I think that? Because he has no personality.
I'm still going to the rest of the series, but my standards won't be as high.

Customer Review: I love vampire books and paranormal stories. I have read all of Anne Rice and Maggie Shayne in this arena and am always looking for something new. A friend suggested this to me (another Vampire buff). She told me to read the forst one quick because a movie was being made so I ordered the whole series and have read the first two books in a week! I'm sure I will get through the nex two just as quick. It's a great story, the romance between Edward & Bella is so intense. Though they are young you can feel how strong it is, I can't wait to see how it continues.

Customer Review: While the Wongs have created a well-written, nicely-detailed and generally-helpful how-to for teachers, especially new ones, the book also can be maddeningly frustrating as well.
The book, as other critics have noted, is focused on the elementary school teacher, not the middle/junior or high school teacher. Some of the strategies and techniques do, indeed, work at the upper levels.
For example, all teachers, regardless of grade level, need to use a seating chart, an attention-getting signal and a daily "do-now" exercise. And the Wongs outline these ideas effectively.
But the Wongs have, unfortunately, based many of their ideas on the assumption that a teacher has his or her own room, to do with as he or she pleases. Such is not the case with most upper-level teachers.
I used this book during my first year of teaching, which wasn't that long ago. I still use it today. I found it helpful back then, and still find it helpful now. Taken with the proverbial grain of salt, there is much here that will be helpful for the beginner as well as for the novice.
Still, as other critics have noted, there are several cheaper, better books out there. For beginners, I recommend "Rookie Teaching for Dummies" -- yes, it's part of the now-famous "Dummies" series. There's good stuff there, and not just for the beginning elementary school teacher.

Customer Review: I've read all of the Harry Potter books aloud to my son (who is now 10), and, while we're not yet far into Deathly Hallows, we can see that it will be as fun as all the others. We became engrossed in it from Page One. We're excited to see how the series ends, but we'll miss reading it. It's not only been a good read, but a great experience for us to have together. He could certainly be reading it alone at this point, but we wouldn't miss the shared enjoyment.

Customer Review: Do you what to buy a book you'll love to read? If you do, you should read Chrysanthemum By Kevin Henkes. Kevin Henkes is a good author. Chrysanthemum is a good children's book. If you are a mom you should read it to your child. They might love it like a favorite book. In the book Chrysanthemum loved her name until she went to school. The kids teased Chrysanthemum and said "you're named after a flower" and a girl named Victoria that was in her class teased her the most. Her parents said her name was perfect but Chrysanthemum did not think so. She had dreams that were nightmares like that Victoria was picking her like a flower. The main problem is she is picked on. I chose the book because it is interesting. The characters are classmates and Chrysanthemum and a music teacher and Chrysanthemum mom and dad. The book takes place at her mom and dads house and outside and school. I think the authors message is to not tease somebody (treat somebody the way you want to be treated.) If you want to find out if the problem's solved you should read the book.

Do you like mice? Then you will like Chrysanthemum. I chose to read this book because it was about mice. Chrysanthemum is a girl who was named after a flower and it came to the first day of school and everyone made fun of her because she was named after a flower. Everybody thought it was a funny name except for her parents and her teacher. Everybody said "That's a dumb name. Your names Chrysanthemum it barely fits your nametag" Every body there told chrysanthemum their names and they said their names were perfect. I'm not giving away the ending. You are going to have to read it. I will give you a hint though it turns out to be pretty good. I think that you should never make fun of someone about them. You're just making it worse and worse for you not the person who your making fun of. Its just an embarrassment. Kids through 1st and third grade should read this book because it teaches you a lesson.
