The quotation: [...] "Back in the caravan, we were off to the main event of the day-and perhaps the entire trip: Obama's visit to his father's farming compound, the specific physical roots of his paternal African heritage. Unbeknownst to Obama's trip planners or staff, presidential candidate Raila Odinga had assembled thousands of Luo for a political festival in Obama's honor. For Odinga, Obama's visit was a political gift. For the entire trip, Odinga endeavored to gain as much publicity for himself as he could by cozying up to his beloved figure from the United States who happened to have a Luo heritage. Odinga even had T-shirts printed with the image of him and Obama and the humble declaration AFRICA'S GREATEST SONS. Kisumu, in fact had been in carnival atmosphere for several days, with nightclubs celebrating Obama's trip in raucous fashion. So there was no way to get around the orchestrated politcal assembly, which had all the trappings of the same kind of even in the United States. Local officals and their minions, who most likel had some connection to political patronage of the Luo, gathered at Odinga's request to see Obama. A group of uniformed schoolchildern had also amassed outisde the schoolhouse named in Obama's honor. They stood in a long row, swaying their hips and waving their arms rhythmically to a song composed specifically to honor their American visitor. The lead voice was a boy about twelve years old who crooned in a beautifully melodious manner as the other children harmonized behind him. To the melody of the American song "This Land Is Your Land," the children had supplanted American geographic points of interest with Kenyan spots: "This land is your land, this land is my land, from Lake Victoria to the Coastal Province, from Nairobi to the Rift Valley, this land is my land alone." They stood amid buildings of the primitive-looking Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School. From the financial donations of Obama, the school had purchased chalkboards and wooden desks and various types of science equipment. The problem is, the science experminets would undoubtedly require running water, and the schoolhouse appeared to have none. The school featured just three small buildings with one classroom each, on the edge of a big hill overlooking a small green,-brown valley. The classrooms were less than iniviting, just concrete floors and worn wooden tables and chairs. Most unfurnished basements in the United States look more modern and better equipped for schooling. "Hopefully, I can provide some assistance in the future to this school and all that it can be," Obama said at a quick dedication ceremony, careful to lend support but not to overpromise. [...]

Customer Review: I bought this book when my daughter faced some serious lags in starting the school year--3 days into a new school and 6th grade, and she was out from an appendectomy. I knew we'd have to do some serious instruction at home to keep her up to speed. Because our math text book is so unfriendly, the teacher recommended another reference, but this popped up on the Amazon suggestions. The positive reviews grabbed my interest, and when the book came I found that I actually wanted to read it! It has come in very handy during teary episodes of "I don't know how to do this"--it covers all those topics we once learned, but forgot, and makes it very fast and easy to re-learn (for parents) and learn (for kids). Customer Review: I purchased several editions of Princeton Reviews 2001, 2003, 2005 & 2007 and the content/test questions for the ISEE portion are exactly the same.
I called Princeton Review and they pushed me off to Random House their publisher. Random house admitted that they only changed the cover because the test has not changed, yet they consider the books updated each year. If you are looking for additional questions for your child, do not buy any multiple Princeton Reviews. Try a different company.

Customer Review: I have not read this book nor am I a teacher, but have a question. Does this book help with other professionals and adults? For example someone who knows science and takes Calculus improves comprehension analytically? Or someone who knows spelling and now uses shapes for math may help in identifying, say, words? So, not to just teach the kids how to read but to help them with their profession (outside of just teaching) or with their everyday activity/living too? Sorta like self empowerment. Thanks! Steve

Customer Review: There is something for every type of student here. There are universal strategies from basic reading comprehension to literary analysis. I've always struggled with how to teach inference and analysis to students- I know how I do it, but how do I transfer this knowledge to my students? This book covers the strategies along with the author's personal experiences teaching them in the classroom. Most, if not all, teachers will be able to relate to the author's humorous yet realistic writing style.
